Throughout his lifetime, the responsibility to serve has been a common theme in Dr. John J. Sheaffer’s life.
As a child, he watched his father care for patients in the New Holland community as a dentist. After earning his DMD from the University Of Pennsylvania School Of Dental Medicine in 1969, Dr. Sheaffer proudly served as a captain in Vietnam where he headed the dental clinic for the 101st Airborne Division. Upon returning to work alongside his father in his New Holland dental office, he was elected as president of the Lancaster County Dental Society and served on the board of the Lancaster County Vocational School.
With the opportunity to serve in the field of Dentistry, Dr. Sheaffer cherished the rewards of many fulfilling, long-term relationships with his patients. These relationships have enabled Dr. Sheaffer to share the total health benefits of comprehensive dental care. It’s clear that our patients see the value in these relationships also. That’s why so many members of our patient family have chosen to trust their dental health to three generations of the Sheaffer family.
Dr. Sheaffer has seized the responsibility to care for his patients by remaining actively involved in continuing education opportunities and prestigious professional organizations throughout his career. In addition to earning his certification at the Pankey Institute, Dr. Sheaffer was awarded his Academy of General Dentistry Mastership in 2005, an accomplishment requiring 1,100 hours of continuing education. He is a member of the American Dental Association, Academy of General Dentistry, and the Lancaster Dental Society.
Setting an example.
Dr. Sheaffer has set a shining example for his daughter and business partner, Dr. Laura Harkin, as well as for his staff and his patients. He has proven that it is possible to balance honest, hard work with family life and fun. He and his wife Sharon live in West Earl Township, and they have three adult children: Dr. Harkin; Dr. Chris Sheaffer, also a dentist; and Aaron Sheaffer, a geophysicist.
